Embracing AI: The Good, The Bad, and My Personal Use Cases
Exploring the Impact of AI on Our Daily Lives
Hey guys! As you may know, AI, particularly chatbots, are changing the world with their capabilities. They're being used nearly everywhere, and you'd be a little crazy not to use them. However, one downside is that AI is also being used for some less-than-great purposes, like cheating on school papers and doing less work. Here are my thoughts and my most-used use cases with AI.
My Used Apps
ChatGPT: The most famous and widely used AI chatbot; I have it open on a tab every day when I work.
Claude: The best AI for coding. Its artifacts function and code display are top-notch. When working with both ChatGPT and Claude, the overall effectiveness is significantly better with Claude.
Brave's AI: When searching for things, it automatically summarizes everything for you.
Grammarly: I find this to be the best grammar checking application there is.
Coding and Troubleshooting
Here’s something I need to admit: I don’t really know how to code. I have a basic understanding from my CS50 course, but I lack the capability to write paragraphs of code for my projects. That’s why I use AI for coding. It's super fast and usually works well. When something doesn't work, I can feed the error message back to the AI to help fix it.
I also use AI in conjunction with Google and mainly Reddit to troubleshoot errors, especially those I encounter while using Kali Linux as my OS and experimenting with new projects.
Summarizing
One of my favorite features of AI is summarizing. It's incredibly handy to send in a large chunk of text and receive a concise summary highlighting the most important points. I use this when researching products or multiple options, then ask it to summarize and compare the products, helping me choose the best one.
Quick Questions
I mostly use AI for short questions, like converting pounds to kilos, coming up with ideas for prodjects or even for writing jokes tho he doesnt make the best;). This is also the biggest use case for most people.
AI Use in Blogging
Checking Grammar and Facts: I also use AI for blogging. It helps with grammar checking (since English isn't my first language) and fact-checking, which is beneficial when I write long posts.
Downsides of AI
While AI can be incredibly useful, there's a downside: people are relying on it too much. It seems like everyone is becoming dependent on it, leading to a culture of laziness. For example, some students use AI to cheat on their essays, asking the AI to write the entire paper and then changing a few things so AI detectors can't catch it. After just a week, these students might even forget what they submitted, which is alarming for future generations.
Another significant issue is deepfakes—videos created using AI that feature people who aren't real. Many scams utilize deepfakes, particularly to deceive older individuals into sending money. Deepfakes are also being used to create inappropriate content of individuals, often without their consent, which can be extremely harmful.
But deepfake can be quite fun sometimes:
Conclusion
AI has its benefits and drawbacks. While it can greatly assist with tasks like coding, summarizing, and blogging, it’s essential to be aware of its potential negative impacts on society, particularly concerning laziness and privacy.
